The 2014 Institute
Planning is underway for the 2014 Intellectual Property Institute. We anticipate programming will be similar to that of the past Institutes. We can confirm that Professors Lemley, Nimmer and McCarthy will return for their popular annual discussion, the "IP Year in Review," Fadi Chehade (President and Chief Executive Officer, ICANN) will be the 2014 luncheon keynote speaker, and Erwin Chemerinsky (Founding Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law, Raymond Pryke Professor of First Amendment Law, UC Irvine School of Law) will provide a special closing keynote address.
Additionally, the Hon. Kimberly Moore (Fed. Cir.), the Hon. Leonard Davis (E.D. Tex.), the Hon. Andrew Guilford (C.D. Cal.), the Hon. Faith Hochberg (D.N.J.), the Hon. John Kronstadt (C.D. Cal.), and the Hon. James Robart (W. Dist. Wash.) will talk about new pathways in patent litigation. The Hon. Richard Posner (7th Cir.) (via remote broadcast), the Hon. James Robart (W. Dist. Wash.) and the Hon. James Selna (C.D. Cal.) will discuss patent remedies. Deborah Cohn, Commissioner for Trademarks, will be featured in a session on strategic trademark prosecution and litigation issues.
The 2014 Institute will feature the latest IP topics including possible changes to the Copyright Act, the international copyright system, public performance, reproduction and distribution rights, reducing the cost of litigation, decoding patent monetization, expanding the Internet address book and comparative brand protection strategies in developing markets.
