The 2014 Institute

Planning is underway for the 2014 Intellectual Property Institute. We anticipate programming will be similar to that of the 2013 Institute, which is described below. Check back often for updates.

A Review of the 2013 Institute

For the 2013 Intellectual Property Institute - the 10th annual installment of the Institute - Chief Judge Rader provided the luncheon keynote address. Professors Lemley, Nimmer and McCarthy returned for their popular annual discussion, the "IP Year in Review." Chief Judge Randall Rader (Fed. Cir.), along with the Hon. William Alsup (N.D. Cal.), the Hon. Rodney Gilstrap (E.D. Tex.), the Hon. Andrew Guilford (C.D. Cal.), and the Hon. John Kronstadt (C.D. Cal.) discussed new pathways in patent litigation. Also discussed were the latest IP topics, including contributory liability and the duty to police internet content, software interoperability, copyright protection in a digital TV age, strategic patent litigation issues, practice before the ITC, AIA navigation strategies, ethics of IP negotiations, abuse and misuse of trademarks in a social media world, and grey market goods and counterfeits. The day ended with a hosted cocktail reception and a musical set led by Chief Judge Randall Rader.
