J. McCaffery
McCaffery is a frequent contributor to the popular media. He has written for THE WALL ST. JOURNAL, USA TODAY, The L. A. TIMES, WORKING WOMAN, The SEATTLE TIMES, The PROGRESS REPORT and elsewhere, and has been featured in stories in MONEY MAGAZINE, GLAMOUR, The WALL STREET JOURNAL, and WORKING WOMAN among others. McCaffery has written over a dozen scholarly articles in such publications as the Yale Law Journal and Philosophy & Public Affairs. He has presented papers at academic conferences in the U.S. and abroad. He has served as an advisor to the Russian Federation on tax reform, and worked as an issues advisor for the Bill Bradley for President Campaign. McCaffery graduated summa cum laude, phi beta kappa from Yale College with a bachelor's degree in both classics and philosophy. After teaching high school for two years, he graduated magna cum laude with a juris doctor degree from Harvard Law School, after which he practiced as a tax lawyer specializing in estate planning and real estate for four years. Since joining the USC Law School faculty in 1989, McCaffery has added a master's degree, phi kappa phi, in economics. McCaffery visited at Yale Law School during the 1993-94 school year, and has since 1994 held a joint appointment at USC and at Caltech. He serves as the Executive Director and Chair of the Planning Committee for the USC Institute on Federal Taxation, now in its 54th year, and is the founder and initial director of the USC-Caltech Center for the Study of Law & Politics, an inter-disciplinary research group.
