About the Frank Rothman Scholarship

Recipients of the Frank Rothman Scholarship represent the best of the best at USC Law. One student is selected from each year's incoming class to receive the full-tuition, three-year scholarship. The Rothman Scholar also receives a Summer Fellowship that provides a guaranteed placement with the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, following the first year of law school.

Applications for the Frank Rothman Scholarship are accepted by invitation only. USC Law School carefully selects candidates for the scholarship from the pool of applications it receives each year. To increase your chances of being invited to apply for the Frank Rothman Scholarship, submit your USC Law application no later than January 1, 2012. The Rothman Scholarship deadline is January 20, 2012.

Frank Rothman Scholars are selected entirely on the basis of merit. Criteria include strong undergraduate record, LSAT score, and additional accomplishments, such as publishing books and articles, running a business, inventing useful devices, and other similar, highly significant achievements. Finalists are provided with airfare and lodging in order to participate in interviews and meetings at USC Law. Final selections are made in the spring.

The program honors the late Frank Rothman '51, one of the nation's most respected sports and entertainment lawyers. Rothman served an impressive roster of clients - including the NFL, the PGA, Warner Bros., Walt Disney Co., Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox - and acted as chairman and CEO of MGM/UA studios from 1982 to 1986. In later years, he worked as an antitrust specialist and partner in the Los Angeles office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

Called a legendary litigator by the National Law Journal and often included on that publication's list of the country's 100 most influential lawyers, Rothman was admired and respected by colleagues, judges and courtroom opponents. He was especially beloved at USC Law, where he maintained close personal friendships and advised the school's administration as a member and chairman of the board of councilors.
