Incoming Exchange Students

USC Law is happy to welcome students from our partner universities -- London School of Economics, University of Hong Kong, Bocconi University, University Jean Moulin Lyon, and Bond University -- each semester as part of our exchange programs.

Interested exchange students will go through selection procedures at their home institutions and submit USC Law application forms provided by their home institution exchange coordinator.

Exchange students will participate in the Graduate & International Programs orientation program each fall and take upper-division classes at USC Law with LL.M., M.C.L., J.D., and other exchange students. Please see the special note below for LL.B./J.D. students from the London School of Economics.

After being admitted to USC Law, exchange students will receive a visa sponsorship form as well as a host of other information to help them prepare for their time at USC Law. Additional information can be found online at the links below.

Special policies related to LL.B./J.D. dual degree candidates from the London School of Economics

The LSE-USC LL.B./J.D. dual degree program consists of two years of law study at the LSE followed by two years of study at USC Law. Upon the successful completion of the four years of study, dual degree program participants will receive the Juris Doctor (J.D.) from USC and the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). from the University of London.

Students enrolled in the program will be treated as transfer students to USC Law. As transfer students, non-law courses cannot be taken for J.D. credit. In addition, students cannot enroll in USC dual degree programs, such as the J.D./M.B.A.dual degree program. Students must complete a minimum of 88 total units in law courses. Students are required to enroll in a minimum of 58 units of the 88 unit minimum at USC Law. Students are required to have taken 35 of the 58 units in upper-division, numerically graded courses.

USC Law will grant each student up to 30 units in advanced standing credit for their two years of LL.B. studies at the London School of Economics toward the 88 total unit requirement. If a student is awarded fewer than 30 semester units, the student must enroll in as many units as is necessary to meet the unit requirements. Students must submit their complete, official LSE transcripts for advanced standing credit review. Students will have received passing grades in each course considered for credit.

Students will be required to enroll in the following USC Law first-year courses: Constitutional Law (4 units), Procedure (4 units), Legal Profession (3 units) and Legal Research Writing and Advocacy (4 units).  Note that Legal Research Writing and Advocacy is a two-semester course -- 2 units are earned each semester.  The courses listed above, and any other first-year courses that are taken, do not count toward the 35 upper-division, numerically-graded unit requirement. Students will be waived from Torts, Contracts, Criminal Law and Property after review of their complete, official LSE transcripts.

More detailed information will be provided to LL.B./J.D. students upon being admitted to USC Law.
