A Review of the 30th Anniversary (2011) Institute for Corporate Counsel
Russell Goldsmith, Chairman and CEO of City National Bank, provided the keynote address for the 30th Anniversary Institute. Noted Constitutional law scholars Dean Erwin Chemerinsky and Professor Eugene Volokh kicked off the Institute with a preview of important issues before the U.S. Supreme Court affecting business operations. The closing session featured General Counsels Stanton Dodge (DISH Network), Daniel Garrie (Focused Solution Recourse Delivery Group), and Deborah Siegel (Guess?) providing their perspective on current legal challenges.
Other notable sessions included an afternoon plenary session update on developments in labor and employment law with Lafe Solomon (Acting General Counsel, National Labor Relation), Julie Su (Labor Commissioner, State of California), and Randel Johnson (Senior Vice President, Labor, Immigration & Employee Benefits, U.S. Chamber of Commerce). Mid-day concurrent sessions were organized into "tracks" of programming focusing on litigation and transactional issues critical to in-house counsel and those who work with them. Topics included the latest developments in class actions, financial reporting issues of importance to general counsel, significant legislative and regulatory developments, and cross-border transactions.
About the Institute
The Institute for Corporate Counsel (the "ICC") is a 501(c)(3) organization that operates in collaboration with USC Gould School of Law and the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Corporate Law Departments Section. The ICC's Board of Governors includes members chosen by USC Law and the Corporate Law Departments Section, as well as at-large selections. When planning the annual Institute, the ICC's Board of Gov
s Boardernors relies on the valuable input of the ICC's Advisory Board regarding prospective speakers and topics. The ICC's Emeriti Governors are a source of historic perspective when planning the Institute. A list of the Advisory Board members is available by clicking here, and a list of Emeriti Governors is available by clicking here.
Our Philosophy
The Institute provides a venue for our panelists and participants to better understand Los Angeles' evolving business environment, as well as best practices and changes in the law which can impact business operations. The Institute provides current information, legal guidelines, and practical advice which can be immediately put into practice in an in-house legal department or a law firm. We also believe that networking with your peers is critical to staying informed - to that end, morning and afternoon breaks, a keynote luncheon, and networking reception allow participants to learn from, meet and re-connect with their peers.
